We are pathetic and we deserve what we get. Thankfully I have a huge collection of software, music and movies I actually control and own so I can sit on my throne of optical media and eat popcorn while the industry at large burns.

In the past few years, I've been seeing more posts online by people saying they've been buying physical media because of streaming services removing content. And just in the last week, I saw an article going around online saying sales of CDs has gone up recently as gen-Z seems to be collecting them. Also, it says sales of CDs has surpassed vinyl records.. Vinyl records have had a niche following recently, but it sounds like a lot of people are tending toward CDs recently. (I myself have always preferred CD to vinyl)

There are stores in my area that sell used video games for older consoles, and I've found that the prices can sometimes be a little higher than I really feel like paying.. It definitely seems there's a demand for it - but for those systems, I think a lot of it is nostalgia. I kinda wish I hadn't sold my TurboGrafX-16 system & games in 2000 and had held onto it instead.. I didn't think that stuff would become as valuable and sought-after as it is today.

yeah that's a tough one.. i had a few of the SNES RPGs that are worth $200+ nowadays.. i think i sold them (and the rest) for $50 each, which would have been pretty high for the time. i just found that i treated them like a trophy instead of playing (and would emulate instead)

i tend to buy "cool things" with almost every cent i earn on ebay though, so their sale probably went (since 2002?):

games -> old synths & music production equipment -> camera gear -> dj gear -> computer parts / finally lost most value and one of the last things netted me a copy of Indiana Jones on Steam.

particularly with gifts in the past, stuff that became outdated or i lost interest, i always make sure it goes to something i can often directly point to as still a "gift in spirit" .. but even just in general it's a shame to spend that kind of money on a pizza and a tank of gas.

i suppose i'm lucky i've never had to sell things to make rent.. *knocks on wood*

I've noticed new, high-end CD players created, trying to cash in on the
trend.

My son likes CDs in his car, they're less temptation to fiddle and get
distracted while driving. I'm concerned about my daughter playing with
Spotify when she's driving, but at least now she's adamant about not
looking at her phone while driving.

Hipster Nostalgia can be lucrative. My local tech thrift shop had
stacks of Wiis for $10/$20 each, untested. I'm sure they went on eBay
for $50+.

One of the games I had for my TurboGrafX-16 was Air Zonk. It was a pretty fun game. Back around 1994 or so, a friend borrowed it and never returned it.. That always annoyed me.. And I think that's one of the more sought after games for the console now.

yeah.. I only sold my collection because I hadn't used it in a while and at the time, I didn't really feel like keeping it around taking up space. That's usually why I sell a lot of things that I'm not using anymore.

WHen I used CDs in my car, I sometimes felt like fiddling with putting CDs in the stereo & taking them out could be a little distracting sometimes. Currently I have a USB flash drive with MP3s of my music in my car, and I often leave that plugged in. I think it's easier to switch the stereo to USB and then browse for the music I want (only when I can safely do so, of course).

:) I still have my Nintendo Wii.. I modded it several years ago when Nintendo pulled support for it.

I heard there's a new store opening soon in my area selling old stuff from the 80s (maybe older) and newer - I'm curious to check them out.

my honda has an mp3 cd player. my mom's toyota does as well. i think all of the aftermarket models of car cd player also play mp3s now.

i ended up ripping all of her CDs for her and consolidated them to one tiny book of mp3 CDs.. now she doesn't have to swap them around nearly as often.

for me i listen mostly to recordings of live DJ sets so i fill a CD with whatever fits and then play it until it gets boring.

never really cared for playing music off my phone, nor my iPod. just one more extra thing to mess with. that's also why i love my completely built-in GPS.. it just turns on when the car starts. no apple or android bunko
