Dreams Of You

Walking along the beach, your hand in mine, the gulls continually proclaiming 'Mine! Mine!', my soul can do nothing but smile. Laughing, I suddenly have to chase down the neighbors dog as he stole, once again, a Frisbee from one of the beachgoers. Years down the road, I rescue Max when he jumped in the water trying to reach me. Another time, sharing a 2 person tent with a Shepherd and Bassett Hound because they're scared of the Osprey. Flashing back to dances at the Tiki, happiness is overwhelming.
The joy I see in your eyes as you find out the reason you are late never prepared me to deal with the devastation to follow. Amazed at your strength, I eventually come to terms with it myself. We travel the country, life lying bare and open before us. Time in the service keeps us seperate at times, yet, cherished are the memories I have of those years. The songs of Elvis, The Beatles, and The Who begin to fade in the background and my remembrances begin to slide back into the deep recesses of my mind. An urgency forces my eyes open, and I answer the call before making the morning wine.
The salty southern breeze mixes invitingly with the aroma of my coffee, the sounds of traffic on the highway plays a welcome song. A wave of contentment washes over as I remember the scenes from my dreams. I smile to think I still have many more years ahead to stay blessed with your companionship.
